Alibag - The Mangaon Sessions Court has sentenced the accused in the murder of his cousin to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs. 15,000. The name of the convicted accused is Ravindra Sonu Jagtap.
The incident occurred on February 16, 2019, at Mazgaon Bauddhawadi in Tala Taluka. There was a dispute between the accused, Ravindra Sonu Jagtap, and his uncle, Hiraman Jagtap, over the cutting of coconut trees. Following this dispute, Hiraman Jagtap's wife verbally abused the accused, Ravindra Jagtap. Out of anger, Ravindra attacked and killed Deepak, the son of Hiraman Jagtap, who had come to the village from Mumbai, by stabbing him in the stomach and shoulder with a knife and a sickle.
A case was registered against the accused under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at the Mhasla Police Station. The police investigated the case and filed a charge sheet in the Mangaon Sessions Court. The hearing of the case took place before Additional District and Sessions Judge Harshal Bhalerao. Public Prosecutor Jitendra Mhatre represented the case. During the trial, testimonies from eyewitnesses, the investigating officer, medical officer, and other witnesses were recorded. After considering the arguments from both sides, the court accepted the arguments presented by the public prosecutor and sentenced the accused to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 15,000.
